Cruising on our Harleys through Tennessee

Things To Do, Nature and Outdoors

It was mid-October and a group of friends rode our Harleys up through Tennessee to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. The main reason for our trip was to see the leaves changing colors. This is something Florida palm trees do not do!

The colors are magnificent in Tennessee. The ride through Georgia is mostly pavement, but the sight of the Tennessee border was wonderful. The leaves were turning, the days were perfect, nights were chilled just enough to come back to the cabin to warm up by the fireplace and sip our favorite Tennessee wines.

The next morning we rode Deal’s Gap’s winding turns. The nice part of riding is the beautiful scenery and smells as you ride. A feeling of freedom that’s unexplainable to someone who doesn’t ride.

Lunch was a quick stop at a local restaurant for a “home cooked” style meal. Evenings we exchanged stories of previous rides around the fireplace. Ate a little dinner we cooked on the grill and snuggled in bed with the fresh air of the Tennessee mountains around us.

It was only four days of riding, and we took pictures to remember the chilly evenings, the beautiful colors of the leaves and the fellowship of our group of Harley riders. Back to Florida (which I’m not complaining about either, because we love the spring and fall here, too).

As we pulled into the driveway we reflected on our great trip and time spent with our friends, and we’re looking forward to the next ride. Where will we go? It’s hard to beat the scenic ride in Tennessee!

  1. Yes, sounds like a great ride….I have ridden almost all of West/Middle Tennessee starting out on a Sportster…..Then my job transferred me to Anchorage Alaska in the month of November…..didn`t think there would be any bike riding there with all the snow & ice. When spring came around everybody started getting their bikes out, I changed my idea about riding in Alaska, I had my sportster shipped up from Memphis by Federal Express (my Job) and started getting out to ride for the short riding season. I had a blast and found that seems like everybody my age rode a Harley in the summer in Alaska, Well i decided on a bigger bike and sold the sportster and bought a 84 FXWG (last of the 80Ci iron mtrs)  well I rode all over alaska on it from Fairbanks, Talkeetna, Seward, Homer, ect….and never found a place where people didn`t ride. But a left turner changed my riding days going through an intersection one afternoon in Anchorage…..I woke up a couple on months later missing my left leg above the knee…..anyway i ended up on a old military trike, It was an old 40s model that came with a flathead mtr. that had been changed over to a 74 ci shovel head mtr…...I rode it for awhile but it got to where the upkeep on it was to much…..so i miss my riding days now….Back in Memphis again….....................Live Free Ride Hard….David P
