Deceiving Driveways

Things To Do, Nature and Outdoors

My fiance and I had decided to camp out in Tennessee for our vacation one year. Our first day, we found a beautiful stream, and decided to set up camp on the other side, so we walked across the water and pitched our tent, got a fire going and started fishing for trout. We caught three.

As we were about to cook these beauties, a big 4x4 truck parked behind our car across the stream. I asked if we could help him and he said, “Yeah, you’re in my driveway.” He pointed up to the top of the hill, and we looked up through the trees, and, low and behold, sits a cute little house.

I could feel my cheeks burning with embarrassment. I apologized and said we would move. He said for us to go ahead and stay, but to try to leave by 12 the next day. We thanked him, and he told us to enjoy our stay, and left.

Since that day, I have accidentally camped out in about 8 driveways, some in Tennessee, some in Kerrville, Texas. I don’t do it on purpose, but I am drawn to waterfalls, water and mountains in general.
