Native Nashvillian
Things To Do, History and Heritage
I am one of a few that can truly say they are a native of Nashville. Born in 1963 at the old St. Thomas Hospital that is now Baptist Hospital, I have seen iconic moments that have long since gone, from the Nativity at Centennial Park, to Christmas time at Harvey’s downtown the pasttimes. I attended the opening of Opryland in the 70’s and the opening of Opry Mills. I shopped for my prom dress at Castner Knott and worked at Swensen’s Ice Cream at Hickory Hollow Mall for an after school job.
My mother is a native Nashvillian also. She attended Antioch High when the school was kindergarden through high school all in one building. Small town feel in a growing city.
The Children’s Theater was always an excitement as well as the Planetarium at the now-named Adventure Science Center. Field trips are almost a thing of the past and all those adventures are just memories. There is plenty to do here in our fine city, but my childhood holds many fond memories of the True Nashville that I remember.
