Opry Superstars Jammin’ for Flood Relief, Tennessee Family Fun Continues Statewide

Things To Do, My Tennessee Week

It’s a great week to be in Tennessee with lots to do and see.

On Tuesday evening, the world will be able to watch as Grand Ole Opry superstars Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Ricky Skaggs and Steve Wariner pick up their guitars and hit the Opry stage, with their performance streaming live powered by iClips, at http://www.opry.com beginning at 8 p.m. CST. The show will also be available on iClips.net as well as other various web destinations and broadcast live on 650 WSM-AM and wsmonline.com. The night is set to both raise funds for Middle Tennessee flood relief and kick off the Opry’s months-long 85th birthday celebration.

Stop in to see the three Bennett’s wallabies, the newest tenants of Nashville Zoo’s Critter Encounters area. One male and two female marsupials will be in an area of the petting zoo designed for limited contact with zoo guests. Also, while you are on an animal adventure in Tennessee, be sure to visit the penguins at Penguin Playhouse at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies.

The Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, among the top aquariums in the country, will serve as a temporary home for Gibson, a guitar fish that was located inside the Nashville Aquarium Restaurant, damaged as a result of the flood. Gibson and the majority of the fish and reptiles survived, and were relocated to the Nashville Zoo and the Tennessee Aquarium.

In the western part of the state, the much-anticipated Sheriff Buford Pusser Festival begins Wednesday and lasts through Saturday. The event, held in Adamsville, is the hometown of the legendary sheriff who brought the phrase, “Walking Tall” to fame. People from all over the country will descend on the city to enjoy good music, food and family fun.
