The Show Will Go On

Things To Do, My Tennessee Weekend

No doubt you have all seen the news of Tennessee’s record-breaking rains and subsequent flooding. The events of these past few days have impacted the lives of thousands of Tennesseans. Even still, the recovery process has begun as the citizens of our great state rally together daily to bring Tennessee back into full swing.

Let me share with you some good news. Many of the state’s attractions that you love are without incident and remain 100 percent in operation.

If you are planning a trip to Tennessee, keep that trip on your personal calendar. And if you have not already planned your trip, well, what are you waiting for? We’re open for business!

Coming up this weekend in Tennessee:

The sound of hooves pounding, the sight of silks flying, the scent of spring blooms, the taste of delicacies in the warm Tennessee sun…you know the 69th Annual Iroquois Steeplechase is here! Join us May 8 in Nashville at Percy Warner Park for the yearly spectacle of horses, hats and hounds to experience this unique Nashville tradition for yourself.

Head over to the city of Bruceton to enjoy the festivities of the Bruceton in May Festival. On May 7 and 8, the streets will come alive with dancing, vendors, barbecue competitions and fun games for the whole family! Live entertainment will keep the crowd moving all weekend long.

Venture east to Harriman to attend the Tennessee Polk Salad Festival. Enjoy a day filled with Bluegrass music, antique cars, craft vendors and the Miss Polk Salad Pageant. And of course you won’t want to miss sampling the polk salad!

And we know everyone loves a good freebie, so we’re pleased to announce it’s your lucky day (and the following days are lucky, too). A number of Nashville area attractions are offering free admission. Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art will be offering free admission to the public through Friday. Go see the new Chihuly exhibit at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts for free this weekend through Sunday. At 8 p.m. May 7, the Nashville Symphony will perform a free public concert to thank the community for its support during this tough time. The concert will feature recording legend Christopher Cross and will take place on Nashville’s Public Square in front of Metro Courthouse.

Lots to do this weekend! See you around!
