Titanic, Penguins and White Water Rafting in Tennessee

Things To Do, My Tennessee Week

Cling! Cling! Cling! It’s time to make a special toast for the great things happening in Tennessee lately.

The much-anticipated Titanic Pigeon Forge permanent attraction has finally opened its doors to the public. Hundreds of visitors as well as descendants of those aboard the Titanic came out to attend the grand opening day celebration with Regis Philbin as host for the event. The “Live With Regis & Kelly” host even mentioned the state on his show, discussing his visit to Dollywood, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and his stay at The Inn at Christmas Place. Talk about an honorable mention!

So here’s what you can look forward to: a 30,000 square-foot ship-shaped museum attraction that houses tons of cool artifacts that were carried from the ship into lifeboats by passengers and crew and items found afloat in the water’s surface after the ship sunk.  Also inside the interactive attraction there are full-size reproductions, built to actual Titanic blueprints, of a first class suite, first class hallways and more.

Gatlinburg just keeps the openings coming with the new Ripley’s Penguin Playhouse exhibit at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies. Aquarium visitors can get an up-close view of the 18 penguins, the first penguins to call Gatlinburg home, in this naturalist exhibit. Prepare to “ooh” and “ahh” as clear underwater tunnels give visitors a chance to meet eye-to-eye with Little Joe, Fearless Frank, Stormin’ Norman and the other penguins.

Also making headlines is the reopening of Highway 64. Remnants of last November’s rockslide have been cleared away so this means great news for Ocoee River lovers. So if you haven’t already, start making your white water or kayaking adventure plans because the Ocoee is in full swing.
